12" Embossed Brass Three Masted Galleon Wall Plaque, Made in England

A round pressed brass wall plaque measuring 12 inches across, centered on a three masted galleon running under full square sails, pennants streaming from every masthead, riding a band of stylized rolling waves inside a twisted rope medallion. The wide outer band is worked in repeating acanthus scrolls and palmettes, framed by a beaded inner ring and a gadrooned rim. The reverse carries an integral hanging tab stamped Made in England, the mark found on the English pressed brass wall plates produced through the mid twentieth century. The surface has taken on a warm variegated patina with darker tarnish settled into the recesses and scattered verdigris spotting, which is what gives these their depth on a wall. At this diameter it holds a wall on its own above a doorway or anchors a grouped brass plate arrangement.
