A small wheel thrown stoneware crock in the traditional salt glaze manner, the pale gray body brushed freehand in cobalt with a repeating band of triangular pine forms flanked by rows of leaf strokes, framed above and below by incised horizontal rings. The interior is glazed and shows the potter's spiral at the base. Impressed on the underside Jamestown Pottery. Stands 4 inches tall with a 3 inch opening, which makes it a good working size for kitchen utensils, brushes and pens on a desk, or a stubby bouquet. Blue and gray salt glaze earns its keep in a farmhouse kitchen but also reads clean and graphic on a modern shelf.
